Advancing Fair Housing: Strategies for Change

Fair Housing Advocates of Northern California Virtual Fair Housing Conference 2024 on April 24th was a smashing success!

Fair Housing Advocates of Northern California annual conference offers an opportunity for housing providers, service agency and jurisdictional staff, and housing advocates to learn strategies for advancing fair housing and racial equity, and we are grateful that so many of you joined us last month to participate in these conversations. For those of you who were not able to join us, you still have a chance to access the materials offered and recordings of the sessions.

We offered four sessions covering topics on the crucial role that fair housing testing plays in providing probative evidence when housing discrimination occurs, causes and effects of racial segregation and ways to address them, ways to leverage fair housing to address emerging corporate landlord practices, and the responsible use of AI to identify and eradicate discriminatory practices while advocating for equitable access to opportunities. This year, we also hosted a Fair Housing Poetry Contest. The winning contestants read their poems during the conference — and many members of the audience expressed how touched they were by the words of these young poets.
