City of Sarasota Housing Authority Honored at Big Mama’s Collard Green Festival

The Sarasota Housing Authority (SHA) was recognized for its unwavering dedication to the Sarasota community during the 9th Annual Big Mama’s Collard Green Festival, held at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex.

Presented by Newtown Nation, this special recognition celebrated the Housing Authority’s long-standing commitment to improving lives through affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization. Since its establishment in 1938, SHA has been a cornerstone of community progress —transforming neighborhoods, supporting families, and fostering opportunity across Sarasota.

With a mission grounded in equity, dignity, and empowerment, SHA provides housing and supportive services to more than 2,400 families. The agency has completed nine major redevelopment projects over the past 14 years, including the newly opened Cypress Square on 21st Street, creating safe, vibrant, and inclusive spaces for residents to call home.

The Sarasota Housing Authority’s continued dedication to building stronger, more connected communities exemplifies the spirit of leadership and service that Big Mama’s Collard Green Festival celebrates each year.

Thank you to the City of Sarasota Housing Authority for your unwavering dedication to our community since 1938.
